The Plitvice Lakes National Park is the largest of the eight national parks in Croatia. The Plitvice Lakes area was declared a national park in 1949, making it the oldest national park in Croatia. In 1979, the Plitvice Lakes National Park was included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List.
The Plitvice Lakes stand out with a unique set of cascades, waterfalls, a gallery of lakes, ancient forests and biological diversity.
Magnificent and numerous waterfalls and 16 lakes amaze with a palette of magical colors, from azure blue to turquoise green. The park can be visited throughout the year, and each season offers a unique experience and puts nature in new clothes.
One of the first researchers of this natural phenomenon, academician Ivo Pevalek, said back in 1937: "There are waters, lakes, waterfalls and forests elsewhere, but Plitvice Lakes is only one".
